Taare Zameen par....

Aamir Khan's maiden directorial venture is definitely worth a watch.
It's a simple narration about a kid who is special and how he needs some care to perform and do normal things and bring out his talent. The kid has acted really well and the background score by SEL is once again good.
Go watch it.

Kumble .. spinner err.. seamer.. fastish spinner...

Well today he literally bowled seam up. If not for bad light and slightly late declaration india wud have won the last match against pakistan..

kinda liking this ...

title song of a vijay tv serial called Kadhalikka Neramillai.
Nicely sung by someone. i dont know the name of the singer..

people are dumb.. at times..

The title should have read - I am dumb at times .well this happened today , as I crib everyday for a few weeks now wondering why i did'nt get the new version of gmail. I guess that I was one of the early users of gmail since sometime in 2004 and used to get all the latest features as and when gmail was updated. But gmail 2.0 if we can say so was launched in october this year and so far my gmail wasnt upgraded. And more some of the proxy email ids that i had created got the upgrades. That was what pissing me off.I did google a bit about this but it din really help.Today I noticed in some google group it was mentioned that if the language was set to English US in the settings panel then u will get the latest version of gmail .To my surprise my language was set as English UK which i did not realise and never thought could be a matter . Anyway it made me realised that anyone can be dumb anytime .. no i did not say a word about blondes.;).

streaming music

Listening to online streaming music is growing number and there are several new websites catering to the various tastes of the music lovers.I was once a fan of the music genmome project Pandora .Recently stumbled upon one such new site called Songza. The interface is neat and was surprised that search returned a latest Tamil song as well. Then saw that this search engine also searches youtube videos for songs.but i am too sure if songza plays random songs based on the listeners choice .go try it.
Another site am hooked on off late for Indian music is musicplug.in
Its good too.

Jayasurya....

No cricket posts for sometime now. But its time to say good bye to one of the greatest and effective players of our time Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya.
He is one of my favorite cricketers and no doubt has a huge fan following as hes an entertainer.
From being an ordinary left arm spinner and a lower order batsman he became a terror to new ball bowlers , an entertainer, six hitter, wicket taking spinner in both forms of cricket.1996 wills world cup was the occasion he chose to show the world what he can do and was instrumental in Sri Lanka's world cup success.
one of the pillars of sri lankan cricket in the last decade led Sri lanka to many of their one day successes. He was effective in the tests scoring a personal best of 340 against a hapless indian attack in colombo.fastest 50 in one dayers and 2020 and the max runs in a over in ODIS are few of his long list of records.
The 2nd test between Sri Lanka and England was the last test match of the master blaster from matara.Sri lankan cricket and the cricket fans world over will miss his game but his exploits on the field will sure be remembered.

:-)

thats a rip off

Hollywood movies have always been a happy hunting ground for many indian Film directors and script writers. And Guess who was at it now.Its non other than priya who is the director of this new tamil movie called Kannamoochi Enada. And which movie was it copied from .. its Guess who.
I saw Kannamoochi Enada first and today as I was watching Guess who, I was like I just saw this movie recently ..The Entire script is copied and given a Indian flavor. In the former a white guy visits his black gal friends family and in Tamil its replaced with local castes.Even the number of missed calls that the hero makes to the heroine is copied.
I was so impressed with this director as I liked her First movie Kanda Naal Mudhal very much and not so now after watching her second movie which wasnt all that great and more so after I see this plagiarism.

update: as i was telling friends about this I realised that even the title was plagiarised ... Guess who -- kannamoochi Enada
adadaaa.......

wats the link .thats a dolly.
Don-Billa-Don 2006-Billa 2007.
Ajits next movie Billa is hyped up now as its release date is closing down.
Ajit with his style, grace and histrionics shud be doing a good job in a supposedly 'slick' version of Billa. But for some reason i did not really like the soundtrack of the movie which i thought was average.lets wait for the movie...

Getting the news what you want, telling people what u know, rss, xml, atom, web 2.0---you are social networking .
Orkut ,myspace, facebook etc are more into people networking .Another flavor of social networking is the community news aggregation sites like digg where one can find people posting news, views and what not. There are quite a few 'digg' like sites which have content with indian flavor .some of the them are
Newzly,NewsCola ,ForumsOfIndia ,IndianPad ,IndiaMarks ,PutVote , IndianBytes ,Humsurfer

Some of these are good but i kinda found lotta masala news in most of em..

Words on the field

Everyone knows that Sachin blew the wind out of the aussies especially Shane warne during his peak over the last decade or so. And the aussie sledging literally bombed with Sachin and Warnie admits that.
"We tried to go after Sachin in the early '90s and he's reeled off a hundred just about every game he played, so we thought OK, let's have a beer with him and say, 'you're a great bloke, Sachin', and don't say anything to him on the field," Warne said.

Warne was commenting about the ongoing word wars between the Men in blue and Aussies and hes looking forward to our new character - Sreesanth..oh yeah we too are ...:)

Its 2020 time

Here we go ,the world cup for the shortest version of cricket( if u dont consider the 10 and 5 over games that we play in our neighbourhood) has started in South Africa in a blazing fashion with the hosts beating the Windies in a high scoring encounter .
To cricket purists this is bullshit and a mockery of the game .But for the cricket boards its more money and spectators it is more fun and excitement at the expense of the pathetic bowlers .Yes bowlers get smashed around mercilessly.
In todays match though Gayle blew the chutney outta Ntini ,Gibbs's pyrotechniques brought the chips down in the windies camp..
not too sure how India will fare in this version of the game ..I have no expectations watsover ..
-------------
In this match , there were a bunch of dancers in the first row of the stands and were dancing to some peppy music whenever there was a boundary hit .End of the match I bet those dancers would have thought that this wasnt a great idea cos there were so many 4s and 6s hit by Gayle and Gibbs and they were literally dancing non stop throughout the course of the match.

oh sachin !!

The master blaster blazed away at the Oval today and powered one more nice win for India.
but along with the win came a shocker which read that sachin is hinting retirement at the end of this year ..
whatever good and bad that is said about him, for most Indian cricket fans Sachin~= cricket. There are a lotta people who watch cricket just for sachin..
To me " enakku nenaivu therijadhu lendhu" I am watching sachin play and every on field success ,gesture, feat of his captivated me and left an indelible mark.
So the very thought that sachin wont be playing cricket i .e he wont do what he was doing best is shocking to say the least .But as all good things do come to a logical conclusion this was to happen ..
tough isnt it ..

Ooh la la !!

This new show is sure be to be the talk of the town or mebbe probably it is ..Happened to watch this program ,part of the Sun TVs talent hunt offerings supported by none other than the legend AR Rahman and was kinda impressed with the performance of the bands .

Remix round la pinranga pa..v3 and oxygen are the bands that i found pretty impressive and V3' s original composition was awesome.based on tamizh raagam Reetigowla i guess.. Ragama naana? i know nothing abt raagams . it sounded like a faster version of "Azhagaana Raakshashi "from Mudhalvan and all i know is that this song is based on Reetigowla .. i am no music expert but have an ear for good music whatever kind that is..Hopefully they make it big..

check this youtube video of the show ...

Oru mugamo

Was listening to the songs from Bheema ...yes Vikrams latest flick.. Harris Jayaraj is the music director..so expect some "inspirational" songs - songs inspired from famous western numbers.;-).
The song Oru mugamo which i suppose is the intro song for Vikram is my favorite and was instantly reminded of "karka karka " from vettaiadu..Hope that it is picturised in a grand fashion..
mudhal mazhai looks to be a chartbuster as any Hariharan melody is ..
Listen to the songs in this relatively new streaming music website .

----
one of my friends told me that Oru mugamo is a rip off from a western song . if u have an idea about it do leave a comment .

sivaji fever ... well not really

I read an article that said Sivaji fever grips US .. Well thats too much of a hype .Yes i do agree that desis in US rather Tamils in US would love to watch this movie .I am not too sure if this statement is apt in the place of Spidermans, shreks and pirates.I do understand that Sivaji's target audience in far too less than the above mentioned movies.
okay reason for the post .Happened to look at the ticket prices for the first day and the first weekend shows in major american cities with considerable Tamil/desi population and they stand somewhere between 16 $ and 26 $ . come on people 25 $ for a first day show for a movie in a cinema theatre with a not so great infrastructure - its not worth it . I did find that there were tickets priced at 16$ which is slightly better but again costlier than a normal ticket for the first day show of a Hollywood biggie.Talks like overseas rights and logistics in screening an Indian movie in the US being on the expensive side dont really convince me.If tickets are overpriced and even though if its a great movie one cannot expect a huge fan turnout. This should apply to any movie anywhere.
Result the movie is soon out on the internet for download not that other movies never make it to the internet .but i feel this could be a important factor propelling piracy.
Anyways i think all these arguments might weigh low in front of " Anything for super star" dialogues. But exploiting the eagerness and anxiety of fans for more money is definitely not good any day.

Obsessed with google

Most of us turn to Google if we need to make a web search for any information that we want .No complains cos Google gives us the best results and we know it.But that doesnt mean searching in Yahoo, live and ask who have improved their search technology too and sometimes u never know that u might find something u lookin for in a search engine other Google.
A firefox user that i am use this extension called customizegoogle
what this extension does is gives u option to search the same search-text on yahoo,Live , ask and other major search engines by clicking a link.
Also check out this greasemonkey script which even does a better job the difference being it works on all search sites whereas the customizegoogle extension only on google search.

ATM

This post is about youtube and its tags.
'Tags' are nothing but keywords that help to identify, group related items in this case videos.
Well this ATM is a small trailer on Actor Vijay's upcomin movie named as Azaghiya Tamizh Magan.
What i found interesting and also funny was that this video i guess was also tagged under ATM tag and hence in the sidebar under related videos category there were all videos about ATM - Automatic Teller Machine and none about Vijay or his movies.Hmm mebbe the related videos /tags must be made smart enough to also identify the content .mebbe askin for little too much eh.

lip sync videos.

As usual bloghopping led me to a interesting bunch of videos based on lip sync.
what is it ? The video has the music of the song playing in the background and the person who make/star in the video sing or jus give the exact lip movements for the video. It should be hard to get the correct synchronization.
well check out these videos

Oz - oozing with confidence

Australia after their thorough professional performance are now enjoyin down under with the 4th world cup in their kitty. All credit goes to the methodical approach that they follow in all aspects of their game not just on the field.
i read this in cricinfo ..

Adam Gilchrist said it would be a challenge to maintain the results. "But
we're too well set up," he said. "We've got such a good infrastructure.
We're the world leaders big-time in that area alone, let alone every other
area that we dominate the world in.

This is not over confidence. Its their self belief. They know what they do..

whenever we do something or about to there might be a question of Why..?
well after watching this movie I thought i shud have asked this question before watching.
Well no big reason to watch the movie.. I went to watch the movie jus because it released on Tamizh New years day and Harris Jayaraj's music and Jeeva's camera( well he directed this movie.. I liked 12 B too..) But padam paathathuku apparam yen da paathom nu ayidichu..

music plagiarism err.. inspiration

People normally or sometimes have the habit of comparing the tune of any new song with the ones that they had heard before.I am no exception. In fact we will find that many songs are similar to some other older song and vice versa.
I happened to listen to songs from a new Tamil movie "Naan Avan Illai" whose music was scored by Dishyum fame Vijay Antony. Most of the songs in the album were either remixes of older songs or inspired (read rip off)by some other songs .
One song kakha kakha is total rip off from number Main hoon Don from the movie Don 2006.
I Liked the song "Radha Kaadhal Varadha" which is a remix of a an old Gemini Ganesan song .This movie movie itself is of the same genre- Remake of a old movie of the same name.

World cup 2007 gets hotter

Big hits, stunning catches, superb run outs ,high scores, quick wickets - these are the things that one day cricket is known for and this is what brings crowds to the grounds .Well this is not all. What makes ODIs more interesting are those thrilling last ball finishes .South Africa and New zealand are normally known for being involved in thrilling close finish one day matches. But todays world cup match between England and Sri lanka went till the wire and brought the somewhat jaded world cup some charm.
England should have won comfortably when they were cruising along in the middle overs. But thanks the brilliance of Sri Lankan bowlers who were well complemented by their hard working fielders turned the match sri lankas way.But New chap Ravi Bopara and veteran Paul Nixon took it till the last ball where Dilhara Fernando held his nerve to coast to an important victory. As things are at the moment at the world cup the 4 teams i think that are most likely to make it to the semis are Australia,Sri Lanka, New Zealand and SouthAfrica and man those matches are gonna be great.I personally want New Zealand to lift the trophy as i always felt that they were a very good all round one day side.
Sri Lankan team was wonderful.they played for each other and they played as a team which is most important. Our Indian cricketers should observe them play and learn from it instead of complaining about coach, pitch and stuff.I honestly believe that all elder players in the team should be shown the doors and youngsters should be given the responsibility.
Meanwhile the Kerry Packer act of Zee TV boss Subhash Chandra is taken in the constructive sense and hope it does some good to the cricket in India.

Madras nalla Madras

Chennai the best city to live in our country ..

News Link

the catch and the stumping

Take a look at this catch. it was a good ,tough catch but not great but what made it great was the guy who took this.Leverock is a character and his on field celebrations are a hit amongst the audience.

stumped of a no ball. oh not really the umpire was the one stumped here .
Virender Sehwag was stumped of a no ball. There was an excited appeal, and perhaps the excitement got to the umpire, Aleem Dar who pbly didn't see the no-ball call and referred the decision to the third umpire, despite the fact that a batsman cannot be stumped off a no-ball.

Sponsor-shipped

After watching the inaugural world cup match in west Indies I wanted to post this ..The match wasnt that interesting as Pakistan played dull cricket and windies were ok..(andha dwayne bravo edho pakistan no 10 playera out pannathuku over alambal panran.. remba over...)But what caught my attention was the sponsorship hoardings and displays around the ground..More than 60 percent of them are Indian companies are rather the Indian arms of an MNC..Its not that this is the first time its happening since i think its there for sometime now.But this time around i felt it was more pronounced.
If we think Why ? the answer is very simple .we Indians adore cricket ,drink, eat, use the foodstuff and goods that are endorsed by cricketers more than other goods.atleast 50 million(the number mebbe less) people are going to watch the matches and so basically marketing for the core of the target audience.I spotted ads for Hero Honda CBZ ,Hutch cellular etc..In this rate it will not be a surprise if we find ads for Dabur chawanprash,Hawkins cooker etc not to forget our Kungumam,Dhinakaran..:)

Its here .. its the World cup of cricket

The cricket world cup 2007 is round the corner with the carribean islands playing host to this edition. There are few minnows in the world cup as there are 16 teams in the fray and the initial group stage is going to be either a barrage of wickets or a storm of runs as the top teams play against a few first timers.Hope that there is some sanity in those matches.
The super 8 stage holds the key and the major 8 test playing countries are most likely to make it without much trouble and then the fun starts here.
As far as team India goes I feel that they have a very good chance to make it to the last four and what happens after that depends on which team is smart enough on that particular day.
This is the last world cup for Indian stalwarts like Sachin,Rahul,Saurav and Anil. So they would be really itching to lay hands on the coveted trophy. Hope it happens that way.
For now gotta wait and watch...

Vaseegara..

Vaseegara.. around 8 years back there was this song composed by a little known composer called Harris Jayaraj and maiden filmi song for renowned carnatic singer "Bombay' Jayashree which was the toast of the music lovers that season and took the composer to new heights.Thereafter one Bombay Jayashree melody was a regular in most of his albums.I still remember the cover of a Minnale audio cd (not original) having a tag next to Harris Jayaraj's name as -A R Rehman's assistant.Though Harris jayaraj did not have a spurt of movies but he never looked back giving consistent hits though there were comments that some of his songs were inspired from other songs. In a place where absolute rip offs are super hits it was ok.
He in his interviews had said that "Blue" is favorite band and no wonder that some of his newer songs are inspired from Blue hits and the kind of instruments that he uses also tell the same story.
but in his recent album Unnale Unnale the song June pona is a total rip off from All rise by Blue.
Well the title of the post Vaseegara -- En nu kaeta . read on..
Harris Jayaraj - Gautam Menon (director -Minnale,Kakka kakka,Vettaiadu Vilayadu) combo has resulted in some good songs and super hits.
Now there is this new movie called PachaiKili Muthutcharam from the same combination. And this album carries a song called unakkul Naaney sung by Bombay Jayashree( there is another version by Madhusree) which I think has the potential to be another Vaseegara. I am not sure how many will go with me or really this song will be that popular, but i felt so.Its not too melodious and not too fast and it is simple and good to hear.Other numbers in the album are also pretty good with a good potential of being seasons hits. The album has an array of young singers including Naresh iyer,Girish(think hes a new singer-I mebbe wrong),Karthik(hes a veteran now). And why i like this album is though there are shades of partha mudhal naaley (VV) and kannum Kannum Nokia (Anniyan) they werent too inspired and were sung well with not much Tamizh kolai (read udit narayan, sukhwinder singh, sadhana sargam and the likes--though i like them sing but kinda don like when they really mess up sometimes which i feel that the music director should have stepped in and corrected)except for a few words by Madhusree.Listen to the songs and enjoy...

DadaGiri

Dada - the prince of Calcutta - Saurav Chandidas Ganguly .hes back.oh yes for the good.
Hes more determined this time around and he himself has said that coming back after an year after making it to the top, is tougher than making a comeback after 6 years which he had done it before.
India beat west Indies in the first of the series of four matches pretty close still after making 338.
Indian batting clicked Dada leading the way and kinda sad that he missed a century by a coupla runs.Hope team india carries on the good run..

One more auto corp sets shop in Chennai

Chennai is the Detroit of India . Wells that in a lots of ways is true.
Read a article in ET about Malaysian Auto maker Naza opening a manufacturing unit in Chennai which reinstates the fact chennai is really the auto hub of India .
But in the article I was surprised if not amused to read these lines "I am impressed with the speed at which Tamil Nadu state administration works," told by the Malaysian minister.
Well if its for the good no complaints whatsoever.
